这张精选辑是宝丽多唱片1982年发行的，收录了埃里克·克莱普顿1970-1979年近十年的11首代表单曲，也结束了“吉他之神”音乐生涯的前半段。2014年环球唱片采用SACD格式重新转制发行，音质大幅提高，接近母带的听感。
埃里克·帕特里克·克莱普顿（Eric PatrickClapton），1945年3月30日出生于英国萨里，英国音乐人、歌手，作曲家、吉他手，曾获得18座格莱美奖，是20世纪最成功的音乐家之一，在摇滚名人堂里有三项成就。埃里克·克莱普顿是有史以来最伟大的电吉他手之一，2003年在滚石杂志评选的一百大电吉他手位列第4，在百大摇滚艺术家里面排名53位。
虽然埃里克·克莱普顿的曲风多变，但是他的大部分作品还是基于布鲁斯风格。他是一个音乐的改革者，他的主要贡献包括布鲁斯摇滚（在“约翰·梅奥尔和布鲁斯破坏者乐队”期间）以及迷幻摇滚（在“奶油乐队”期间）。他还成功地从最早的Delta布鲁斯音乐风格转向流行音乐（代表作《改变世界》）和雷鬼乐（代表作《我射杀警长》）。
自从1960年代布鲁斯摇滚乐以及布鲁斯吉他演奏成为了主流摇滚风格之后，在这种来源于黑人音乐的吉他演奏中，在所有除黑色外其他肤色的布鲁斯吉他演奏家之中，传奇人物埃里克·克莱普顿毫无疑问是其中最杰出的一位。在与埃里克·克莱普顿同时代的所有艺术家纷纷的离开人世，或者失去了原有的歌迷号召力之后，埃里克·克莱普顿是所有当年这些艺术家中为数不多的依然保持着自己高超的演奏技术以及强大的市场号召力的艺术家。
埃里克·克莱普顿为人谦逊，在与其他出色的吉他演奏者比如JimiHendrix，B.B. King，Duane Allman，甚至后辈Stevie RayVaughan相比较的时候他总是非常谦恭，在与B.B.King以及BobDylan等人同台的时候他总是举止非常礼让，他是最有绅士风度的流行音乐家之一。同时，作为世界上最著名的吉他大师，埃里克·克莱普顿还经常热心的帮助包括英国著名流行音乐家Sting、BonJovi乐队主音吉他手RichieSambora在内的其他一些音乐家去录制专辑或者拍摄音乐录影带，并且经常为一些音乐家担任吉他手作伴奏。埃里克·克莱普顿曾经协助过BobDylan、Aretha Franklin、Joe Cocker、George harrison、RingoStarr、Freddie King、Roger Waters等等近百位艺术家的专辑录制。
在布朗姆莱特的乐队和其它好友的伴奏下，1970年克莱普顿的第一张独唱大碟《埃里克·克莱普顿》发行。其中收录了布朗姆莱特的作品《红酒瓶》（BottleOf Red Wine）和其它克莱普顿精选曲目，如《让它下雨》（Let It Rain）。大碟中的J·J·卡尔（J.J.Cale）创作的歌曲《午夜之后》（After Midnight）还出人意料地登上了美国歌曲排行榜冠军。
1974年克莱普顿发行了《461 OceanBoulevard》，不仅象征他走出阴影重新出发，在音乐上更跳脱以往只以蓝调为根基的摇滚而融入牙买加的雷鬼乐，使得风格焕然一新，其中一首翻唱自雷鬼宗师巴布·马利(BobMarley)的歌曲《I Shot The Sheriff》成为埃里克·克莱普顿唯一冠军单曲。
